IDENTIFICATION : Genets are slender cat-like animals with a long body, a long ringed tail large ears, a pointed muzzle and partly retractile claws. Their fur is spotted. All genet species have a dark stripe along the spine; they differ in fur color and spot pattern.
HABITAT : found across a variety of habitats that have dense vegetation — including woodlands, savannas, forests.
BREEDING : Gestation is usually 10-11 weeks long, and the female usually gives birth to one to three young.
DIET : Although classified as a carnivore, they are omnivorous and will eat what is most readily available. This can include small mammals — especially rodents, shrews, and bats — birds and their eggs, frogs, millipedes, centipedes, scorpions, and various fruits.
